In Memory of Professor Vladimir Zarubaev
We mourn the passing of Professor Vladimir Zarubaev, a distinguished microbiologist, talented virologist, and cherished friend, who left us on October 26, 2025
 
As Director of the Virology Laboratory at the St. Petersburg Pasteur Institute, Russia, Professor Zarubaev devoted his life to advancing our understanding of viruses and their impact on human health. His pioneering work in natural products pharmacology bridged disciplines and opened new paths for therapeutic discovery. With more than 4,300 scientific citations, his research continues to shape the field and inspire scientists around the world. 
 
But beyond his professional brilliance, Vladimir was a man of great warmth and generosity. He was always ready to share his knowledge, encourage young researchers, and support his colleagues. His kindness, humility, and genuine care for others made him not only a respected scientist, but a truly beloved person. 
 
Professor Zarubaev’s legacy lives on — in the discoveries he made, the students he mentored, and the lives he touched. Those of us who had the honor to know him will remember him not only for his intellect and dedication, but for his humanity and grace.
